Interesting Article

I read this article How To... Solve The meaning of Life in the Mail on Sunday supplement yesterday and thought my fellow ITLADians might find it interesting It's about the Hadron Collider and the plans to switch it on next month. There is an interview with Professor Brian Cox. One comment he made really stood out:

" The particles of your body have been around for the entire life of the universe. They are spending the blink of an eye in the pattern known as 'you'"

Now whose theory does that remind you of - Karl, do you know?! *smile*

The link is below. You'll have to copy and paste it, I'm afraid as I can't work out how to apply a direct link! Sorry.

Johar: JoJo! You read the Mail on Sunday! Oh dear!
*smile*

For those who either can't copy and paste, or like Hurlyburly probably can't be bothered *waves at Martin* here is a link to the article that Jo mentions:

How To....Solve The Meaning of Life

Now, the Large Hadron Collider will be the largest particle accelerator in the world (although an even bigger one is currently under construction).

Its primary aim is to locate the currently hypothesised Higgs Field and Higgs Boson (or GOD particle), that is the only currently unobserved element within the Standard Model of Particle Physics.

The Higgs Field is asserted, through the Higgs Boson, to imbue mass onto all particles of matter.

IF discovered, as many physicists believe it will be, then the idea of a Unified Field Theory (the like of which Tony and I are working on) will become even more favourable within Science.

Of course, there is a 0.01% chance that this high energy, high speed, explosion of sub-atomic particles will re-create the actual moment of the Big Bang and produce a Singularity which will explode into a Black Hole sucking everything we know into non-existence, but hey!!

*smile*

Thanks for posting this Jo, and if anyone is interested then the New Scientist did a fabulous full special report on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in February 2008 entitled "The Future Of Physics" and if you are interested in the work at CERN, this is a must read.

Oh, and for previous posts relating to Brian Cox and the Large Hadron Collider please follow the links below (and especially read the comments!!)

Thanks, Karl, Appreciate your IT input and the links. *hugs*

Johar: Thanks JoJo.

I am here, primarily, to help!
(and occasionally to go off on one!!)
*giggles*

Plus, I must admit to being a bit of an LHC Nerd!! Been waiting for the "switch on" for over two years! The swines keep putting it back owing to "cracks" and "malfunctions", which rather fills you with confidence when you think this may all end in disaster!

*sarcasm*

But that's Quantum Mechanics for you!

Hope you enjoy the links, there is some good stuff in there! We ITLADists can have some FABO debates if we want to.

Johar: I've only just noticed that you have added the Brian Cox quote and referenced me in your post.
*blush*

Yes, if you take the Cox quote:
"The particles of your body have been around for the entire life of the universe. They are spending the blink of an eye in the pattern known as 'you'"

But then change "body" for "consciousness", you get a good quote towards my theory (and Tony and I's BIGTOE)

"The particles of your CONSCIOUSNESS have been around for the entire life of the universe. They are spending the blink of an eye in the pattern known as 'you'" - Karl L Le Marcs
