Time Anomaly
I am currently reading 'Suddenly Psychic' by Maureen Caudill. This is her account of her experiences following her work with The Monroe Institute. She was trained in mathematics and physics, and worked for many years in the field of artificial intelligence and neural nets. Probably about as analytical as you can get.
The Monroe Institute is based upon the pioneering work of Robert Monroe in altered states of consciousness, using binaural beat sound signals to induce various frequencies in the brain. It has a long and respected record in this area.
Anyway, I am relating this story, which is not unique, but really does shatter common sense conceptions of time. The author's experiences in fact totally shattered and reformulated her world view.
Basically, Maureen Caudill was given an exercise involving a form of remote viewing. She was given a name, time and place relating to a particular woman. She deduced through her psychic skills that this was a woman suffering from breast cancer, at a date 8 months previously. She employed a visualisation technique given by The Monroe Institute, involving sending an image of a golden dolphin to provide healing energy. As an innovation, she left the dolphin with the patient.
The patient was apparently found to be aware of this activity. This in itself violates the consensus world view. But she claimed to have an intuitive awareness of the imaginary dolphin from 8 months ago - at the time her details were documented by the Monroe Institute!
One is free to believe that all this is fabrication or imagination of course, but I for one find that the writer seems sincere and reliable, and I am willing to accept her testimony. The book is published by Hamptons Road, 2006, and is full of interesting material on science and consciousness.

Patrick: That is most interesting. I had read Monroe but was always disturbed by him, particularly because of the experience which preceded his spontaneous astral travel incidents (inhaling some sort of cement while installing bookshelves). Yet there certainly exists a lot of evidence and testimonials, the tale you relate here being quite typical. It certainly does go against the consensus, doesn't it? Thanks for posting that. Have you read Muldoon ? His astral travel theory was quite strange, really, but somehow honest. And quite a bit different from Monroe's. But as you say, the research has been quite respected. And this particular incident appears well documented.
I forgot to remark that this idea of time being something quite different from what it is viewed as in the general consensus is important to Tony's dyad concept of course, and there are many incidents related by - as you say - quite analytical and sceptical people which makes them all the more compelling.
Patrick,
Great to see you back on the blog ... and a very interesting posting as well.
The whole idea of Astral Travel and distant viewing is an area that is catching my attention more and more.
Indeed a few years ago my position would have simply been that perception outside of the body is simply impossible. However after discovering the vwritings of individuals such as Eugene Halliday I am of the opinion that the answer to many seemingly anomolous psychic states (i.e. ones that seem counter to our knowledge of physics) may be explained by applying the ideas of "consciousness fields".
I am sure that many others on this blog (including Karl and the members of ISHVAL) may make some interesting comments to your post.
Thanks again.
Aloha Patrick and thank you for your fascinating post.
As a proponent of the esoteric, this is almost a 'tale of everyday folk' with whom I mix, and would perhaps adopt my renegade pose for a moment... *adjusts garments*
and suggest to Tony's last post that astral travel, meditative and shamanic trances may in fact be in some way a more natural state of being, and it is in fact the western mindset that is anomalous!
Hence the high levels of stress causing ailments and dis-ease (at least according to Harvard Medical School) as we humans struggle to cope with 'living in our heads' 24-7 as we over-use our intellects, and lose our balance and centredness.
With one in four of us coping with menatl illness, are we perhaps the most ill humans that have ever walked the planet?
research seems to suggest that those who meditate regularly receive mental and physical health benefits from so doing.
perhaps that is because they are re-connecting with their true selves, and that this re-balancing creates the conditions for good health?
I would also refer you to review the book 'Seth Speaks' and subsequent by Jane Roberts as being as coherent an explanation for these phenomena as any that I have found in my visit to planet earth.
*gets off high horse*
and as Astral Travel is so interesting I am hoping to attend a training course next month in London once I get the details from a friend!
aloha
Gary
Thankyou for comments.
I don't know a lot about Monroe actually. I read one of his books years ago - it might have been called 'Far Journeys'. But I subscribe to Whitley Streiber's 'Dreamland', and he crops up in a lot of the recorded talks. Streiber apparently did the courses and is full of praise for the method. I have some binaural recordings that I have downloaded (not Monroe's), and am experimenting with them a bit in my meditation.
I think that the whole OBE thing is related to expanding and contracting fields of consciousness, with our 'recommended' state of awareness focussed on the contraction pole of the sequence. I think that these fields are the inner aspect of the various scales of organisation investigated by modern science. I recently read an interesting book describing this in terms of the Vedic tradition, although the author regards Kabbalah and Egyption traditions as parallel ('Creating the Soul Body' by Robert Cox).
Patrick: Apologies for the delay, I have been finding my own Time dilating (and not in the expansive way, unfortunately)
Now, Ah! Remote Viewing! One of my favourite subjects (not to be confused with the nightly ritual in most houses of searching underneath sofa cushions for the television clicker)
*smile*
Many moons ago, in my semi-wild twenties, I spent a goodly few years within the circles of the esoteric, and learned the art of Astral Travel and Remote Viewing (for anyone interested in these things, from rooms just by the now sadly defunct Atlantis Occult Bookshop, on Museum Street in London, where old Mr Crowley himself shuffled about and did a few things of dubious nature, where a certain doorway still remains, admission through which brings many interesting things upon the deliverence of a certain knock......)
But anyway.........
I completely agree with Aloha Gary *waves at Gary and does the universal hand movement for "mine's a pint of Abbots please but I appear to be bereft of change" when he said "astral travel, meditative and shamanic trances may in fact be in some way a more natural state of being, and it is in fact the western mindset that is anomalous!"
Well said, Gary!
*nods*
And Tony, yes, absolutely I can take all Astral Travel, Remote Viewing and things of such nature into the Hallidayan and LeMarcsian aspect of Field Consciousness, indeed in my lonely scribblings I have a chapter devoted to just this within my CtCw theory.
Patrick (again): "I think that the whole OBE thing is related to expanding and contracting fields of consciousness, with our 'recommended' state of awareness focussed on the contraction pole of the sequence. I think that these fields are the inner aspect of the various scales of organisation investigated by modern science."
I wonder if you have read the following regarding my CtCw theory of Consciousness, which your above words seem highly prevalent towards:

Susan Marie: I refer you also to my comments to your own post A Moment In The Heraclitean Flux... regarding Time and the consensus view.
