Coffee and Cigarrettes

Right, way too many film referencing going on without me lately! Coffee and cigarrettes is a great film made up of about 10 different 8-10 minute conversations between people drinking coffee and, yes, you guessed it, smoking cigarrettes. One of the topics that pops up is dreaming and how it is affected by drinking large amounts of coffee. I think it is Iggy pop (this film has an enourmous plethora of celebs including my favourite scene with the hysterical Steve Coogan) that says he likes to drink copius amounts of coffee because it makes him dream in fast forward. This is then repeated by another actor later in the film.

(here comes my clever link that justifies me posting this!!!) Does anyone here find doing certain things or eating or drinking certain things affect their dreams? The reel of film that is our life, is it including our dreams or is it on pause while we're asleep?? If our dreams are part of it why is it that large amounts of coffee would cause it a fast forward result of our projected images? Oh Bill Murray's in it too, great scene with members of the Wu Tang Clan!

Hello, young Hurly; An interesting post, the film looks amusing, and you raise an interesting question. I remember reading Theodore Reik, and being brought up short by his remark that he found that his patients who had been reading Freud had Freudian dreams, while Jung's all had Jungian archetypal imagery in theirs. And it is known that Vitamin B6, and alcohol, and certain drugs and foods have a marked effect on dreaming. While on antidepressants, my dreams became vague, bizarre, chaotic - then I saw on the list of side-effects, "abnormal dreaming". Hurly, we'd better get Tony to answer this, or we're liable to become all confused and insecure about CTF. . .

At first I thought this was yet another "film" discussion and that I would have to discreetly creep out of the room again, however HurlyBurly then skillfully (or accidentally) thrust his shoe in the door and gave me a way in....
*abandones room analogy*
Dreams, when I DO get to sleep (which is about 5 nights a week - for 3 to 4 hours), I don't seem to be affected by any particular pre-sleep consumptions, no.

THANKS KARL!!

*WAVES*

*sadly wonders why it's always guys that wave at me*

SM Kovalinsky said...

Well, I wave at you, Karl. Besides, you have that aristocratic Oscar Wilde-ian thing going for you, wherein you must get a certain number of waves from males.

Hurlyburly said...

Well that's just ungrateful...

i'd retract the wave but a wave backwards is pretty similar to be honest.

*waves back at Susan Marie and pats the empty seat next to me*
"Aristocratic", BLIMEY!
*smile*

Hurly, my apologies Sir.
I welcome the wave of the worldly Morrissey

I was just about to post that the young Hurly/Morrissey-doppleganger ought to be most duly respected for his waves.

There is a rather obvious Quantum Physics gag there regarding waves and collapsing but I'll avoid it.
*smile*
Besides, as SP Morrissey himself sings of HurlyBurly, he is "The Last Of The Famous International Playboys."

What a comeback, Karl; you obviously have the gift. Elegant, concise, cuts to the heart of the matter, and turns the tables to boot. And all while clutching a daffodil.

This is what i get for posting a new topic with NO SUBSTANCE WHAT-SO-EVER!!

SM Kovalinsky said...

Uh oh. I don't like the sound of that. Hurly, didn't you notice that I was the first to comment on the post and it's substance??

Hurlyburly said...

Relax Susan! I was merely kidding around as i've been known to (attempt to) do sometimes! I was mocking myself more than anything!

SM Kovalinsky said...

Oh, sorry. I thought you were really irate. Didn't want you to be. Fine post.

Karl Le Marcs said...

Methinks there is too MUCH substance - (clever duality of humour there, mixing Quantum Mechanics with Linguistics).
*smiles at irony of "substances" discussion in post entitled "coffee and cigarettes"*
