Good luck, bad luck

There is no such thing as luck, there is only presence and absence. Withdraw from Eidolon and it will collapse - approach it and build, and your life will grow/ be successful. People are not cursed by anything but there failure to be here, now. If things go wrong in your life it is because you let them. There are no victims, just failures to be here to sense and control your destiny.

This isn't about betting on the horses or having a materially rich lifestyle. It's about being alive and well, and living the simple lifestyle, that keeps you firmly anchored to the ground - not off on some fantasy of wealth, power, fame. It is keeping your eye on the ball and staying ahead of the game, rather than falling victim to the ever present death (As in the Don Juan books of Carlos Castenada, you need to keep your finger on the pulse of life or death will sneak up on you, in the form of the open manhole cover on the pavement, the car as you cross the road, the assailant in the shadows - all will get you because you are not here to sense the dangers around you in everyday life: Illness is like bodily neglect - it comes from letting go of the reins of existence).

Paige: It depends how one defines 'luck'.
If one thinks there is order in existence and free will and independence then surely 'luck' is just pure probability in statistical mathematics.
However, if one feels there is a deterministic element to existence and that our own observations create reality then 'luck' is our unconscious self-esteem.

I'm not sure that many would agree with your comment that "There are no victims, just failures to be here to sense and control your destiny" but again this becomes redifinable in the context of subjective existence.

I'd actually agree with both of you to an extent. Deterministic factors that Karl has pointed out simply cannot be ignored. Yet at the same time, using my own life as an example, i would say most people know how to improve their lives, they identify the right decisions, and then for whatever reason (this is where the two of you seem to differ) purposely make the wrong ones knowing the effect it will have.

This particular area couldn't be any greyer!

Hurlyburly: Thanks Martin.

Now, you know that I can personally show anyone the power of positive thinking in less than 5 minutes, so your comment regarding some people purposely making the wrong decisions knowing the effect it will have, is intriguing to me when looking at your own psychology and life direction.
(if you want to email me off blog then please do)

And the 'greyness' of the area is purely down to the unanswerable question:

Is what I am experiencing NOW happening in a reality or within a Bohmian IMAX recurrence?

If it is the former then there is probability, chance and therefore luck, but if it is the second then life is mostly deterministic, being a replay of your past life.

Paige,

Your post has a Karmic ring, to me you are suggesting that the way you live your life will determine your fate. To not 'stay ahead of the game' or 'keep your eye on the ball' means that any 'bad luck' that befalls you is of your own making and deserved?

Johar: Read your question again in the light of my very first comment on this thread and my unanswerble question I ask in my comment to Hurlyburly.

Hopefully a light bulb will appear above your head in comic cartoon fashion.
*hugs*

As you rightly pointed out Karl, if we are existing within the Bohmian IMAX life is mostly deterministic, being a replay of your past life.

However, daemonic guidance can alter our existence, if we choose (or are able) to heed it, so wouldn't that be a component of the 'luck' we are discussing?

Karl Le Marcs said...

Johar: Only when the Daemon has guided us away from our past life path (as until then it is just a recording so whatever 'luck' you experienced in reality will simply be replayed in the Bohmian IMAX.)

But once Daemonic guidance has taken you from the path of your past life recording, THEN the 'luck' (or pure mathematical statistical probabilities) will come back into play to a degree.

Blimey I think we just agreed!*grin*

It happens occasionally, I wouldn't let it concern you too much.

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.

What you say Roshni is true - it is attitude of gratitude that saves us and keeps us going forward (Alive in this world)as feeling sorry for ourselves, means we release our hold on life (present presence)and slip back into the shadows of the past. Not being fully here, we cannot control what happens to our bodies (Eidolon deserted bt daemon).

Johar what you say about fate is true but to say you deserve it may be too strong. It's not so much of your own making but failure to make provisions (Be in your body to sense and control life, that will lead to the end you end up with). All condemnation is negativity as a tactic, an attitude and is self or other defeating. To live is to want to be here, no matter what challenges life throws at you - to die is to give up and as with Alice Through The Looking Glass - drift away from contact with life (Running on the spot, to stay present or standing still and getting pulled back into the past by the ever moving sphere of life).
