The Acute Dying Experience (ADE)
Thanks to Dr. Perera of Melbourne I spent last night reading an article that I had missed in the last edition of the Journal of Near-Death Studies. This is the academic journal for professional members of the International Association of Near-Death Studies (IANDS). Many of you may recall that it was an article by me in this journal a few years back that started the whole CTF/ITLAD ball rolling. For this I have to thank Professor Bruce Greyson, editor of that august journal.
So why am I so excited? Well most of this edition is taken up by a fascinating article by Dr. Michael Sabom entitled "The Acute Dying Experience". This article is profoundly itladian in its content and absolutely full of first-person reports of experiences that support CTF. I have contacted Dr. Sabom and I am hopeful that he may make a contribution to this forum.
I would like to open up a debate about the contents of this important article. Clearly there is simply not enough space to precis it all here so I suggest that any of you that wish to join in should request a copy of the article directly from Dr Sabom himself at: 100 Wing Mill Road, Atlanta, GA 30350 or by email at Msabom2@aol.com. (I would be really grateful of you could mention involvement with CTF when requesting the re-print). There may be a small fee involved but I am sure that you will find the article well worth it.
Dr. Sabom has added another TWA (three word acronym) to our nomenclature. He considers that the ADE (Acute Dying Experience) is a phenomenon that preceeds the NDE (Near-Death Experience)and is quite distinct from it. However for us itladians the ADE clearly contains many elements of CTF and neatly explains how such a state of hyper-consciousness comes about. He discusses in some detail how the ADE mirrors many of the sensations described by ketamine (no surprises there, eh guys!)
It is my intention that all public discussions regarding this artical should be on the Forum. However I am more than happy that discussions can also take place here once the overall impact

Hi Tony,
I've emailed Dr. Sabom and look forward to reading the article.
Thanks for the link.
I will do so as well now, and am also looking forward to this article, and to discussions on the forum. It seems that all keeps cropping up to support the beautiful CTF theory, which is unique in its area, yet so complements other theories, and is in turn bolstered by them. Excellent news.
Thats great guys ... SUSAN MARIE I see that you have put your webcam image on at long last!!
Yes, I searched for Dr. Sabom's article online but have now emailed him to ask how I might access a copy. And I certainly spoke well of CTF, rest assured of that, and identified myself as a writer.
Well, I am loathe to ever publish photos of me on public blogs, but my blog is being featured in a book on the American Blogosphere, and they require your blog profile to have a photo. Had to crop it, and not very good. I am one of those who likes to gaze, yet never be gazed upon.
susan...u look so different ..than my imagination.....and i love that u wear orange! thanks for a view of u!
Good lord, Roshni, how did you imagine me? And will you write the good doctor for his article, and join the forum discussion?
EVERYONE: Here is a link to the FORUM topic on ADE that Mahendra wrote a couple of days ago (and the comments made by Tony, Johar and Myself)
FORUM: The Acute Dying Experience
[by Dr Mahendra Perera]
oh! susan..the forum..i dont know why im so wary about it...will definitely write to Dr. Sabom...
Do not be wary; there is no need for it, Roshni!
Actually, Roshni, I take that back. Just went there, and beat a hasty retreat. I have very little that I can add to the forum, except to throw in some philosophy where I can. No, I cannot speak in any of this language, it is foreign to me. You may have a point; it is highly specialized, and for scholars and scientists, which is excellent. But we do well to stick here, but I speak for myself and you only, of course.
Susan Marie: I noticed you have recently placed a comment on FORUM to Mahendra's ADE topic but for some reason Dr Perera duplicated this topic and you have placed your comment in the empty discussion. It would be useful if you could copy your comment into this thread (where Tony, Johar and Myself have previously discussed ADE)

Thanks You SMK
*hugs*
A big thanks to Dr. Sabom for sending his article. I hope to finish the 38 pages tonight and comment on the forum tomorrow.
Your picture is lovely Susan!
Thank you Robin. I will have to check my other account and see if the professor has sent the article to me as well. I am very interested in reading it.
Yes, he has sent it, and asked for no fee; I am very touched, and will read it first thing tomorrow. It certainly will bolster the forum post, to be able to discuss this in full, and relate it to Tony's work.
Yes, I also now have a copy and have had a cursory glance through but will devote some proper time to a fuller digestion of the contents tomorrow.
Thank You to Dr Sabom for making this article available to us here.
I have read Dr. Sabom's excellent essay and posted my remarks on the forum. I will place them here as well:
TONY: There is indeed confirmation and affirmation of your dyad, CTF thesis, and Bohmian I-Max. Repeatedly and consistently, the features of 1. time dilation 2. dissociation 3. the sense of watching a movie showed up in Sabom's concise empirical research. To my thinking, daemonic intervention, falling out of time, and the Bohmian I-Max have spoken throughout Sabom's essay. I felt a sense of time-dilation as I read them. You should surely be mentioned in connection with Sabom's brilliant essay!
I wanted to add, Tony, that your dyad and Bohmian I-Max are the strong and central core of your entire treatise. To see them appear throughout Sabom's pages is intensely rewarding, and I intend to thank Dr. Sabom for his fine work, and inform him of this fact as well.
And the closing paragraphs of the essay read as though they are a deliberate reference to the powers of the Daemon!
